SEPTEMBER 29, 2005 You just have to see this. Michael looks SO different. Of course I do too, but it's my journal so I get to include (and exclude) what I want to! I've known this guy for, let's see, twenty years now. We've only been married eight. Twenty years, geez...
Michael 1994 (age 17) and 2005 (age 28) SEPTEMBER 27, 2005 Emily got out of bed and woke us up this morning. It's very unusual for her to be up before 7 and not a grump. I took her outside to see the sun come up. She liked that. I dressed the girls in cute dresses. This one that Bethie is pictured in was what I wore to my aunt's wedding rehearsal a long time ago. She's just too darn cute in it. I'm thinking that I didn't do so very well on my test tonight. One more down and one more to go then that class will be over! Look- Bethany smiled! SEPTEMBER 26, 2005 Someone thought that spaghetti would be a good idea for supper. Oh well, as long as I'm not cooking I don't care. The girls loved it, but it was a huge mess.
Emily and Bethany try their hand at eating spaghetti Emily got her stitches out today. Michael took her in and I guess she did well. She really likes to go to the doctor. Hey, I even like to go see Dr. Williams, so I can't blame her! At least she doesn't call him daddy anymore. Now he's "Dr. Bullions". Tonight Emily asked me if I teach my kids. I looked at her funny and just said, "what??" She proceeded to say, "Mommy, do you teach your REAL kids?" I was still a bit confused, but I figured she meant the kids I see at the hospital, so I told her that I do teach them. I teach them how to talk. She was satisfied with that answer. Who knows what she thinks I do all day long. She has asked me not to go to work. I don't know why though- I'm sure she has a lot more fun at Pam's house. She seems happier there than she does at home! I just tell her that I have to go teach the kids how to talk and the old people how to eat. She takes that answer. She tells people that I do "Peech FAIR-apy". She can say that Mike is a "pharmacist", but butchers 'speech therapy', oh well. SEPTEMBER 24, 2005 Emily and Momma took a road trip today. Michael had to stay home with Bethany since she wasn't feeling so well. Emily got to visit baby Christiane and I got to see my sister Jennifer. Man, I'll do anything to avoid studying for a test! Emily was so cool riding with her sunglasses, a Barbie 'love' bandaid covering her stitches, a music box with 'Somewhere over the Rainbow" playing, and her Dorothy the Dinosaur. She had the nerve to tell me to turn off the music because hers was on. Amazing how bossy she is. Wonder where she gets that from??? Emily going to Wichita Jaimee found out the sex of her baby yesterday. I didn't get to go to the sonogram, but I did attend her doctor appointment the other day. She's showing now. The girls like to go up and ask to 'see' her baby, so she shows them her tummy. The baby has been kicking already, so maybe soon they'll feel it move. Emily comes up and talks to my tummy too. At Jaimee's appointment the other day, she got a magazine with pictures of the monthly baby growth. Emily has been toting that thing around. She points and tells us, that's like Jai's baby and that's like momma's baby. Daddy gives the girls a bouncy-ball ride SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 My little baby Bethie is 20 months- soon to be TWO! She's such a poser. I can hardly understand a thing she says (and it's my job to understand people that can't speak well), but she's saying a lot of stuff. Her vocabulary is up there and she's not afraid to talk- if only others could understand her. That just takes time, I know. We were spoiled with Emily, the super talker.
Bethany, 20 months old SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 When I got home tonight Emily, Bethany, Jaimee and I were downstairs together. As we were planning to start upstairs for supper, Emily tripped and went head first into the door that was slightly ajar. There was no reason that she would have tripped-no toys on the floor, no ill fitting shoes, etc. Things all worked the wrong way and we ended up at the emergency room. Emily now has a nice row of stitches in the center of her forehead. She did very well. She sat through the stitches without moving or being held down. It was amazing. She seems to be fine for now (9pm). Emily- ouch!
It's so very nice when they're asleep! SEPTEMBER 17, 2005 Emily is starting to be a big girl now. She asked daddy to change her bed to a big girl bed. He has attempted this unsuccessfully before, but it worked this time. She went to bed and slept there through the night. She woke up and came to our room to let us know that Bethany was awake too. Later, she went poopie on the potty chair all by herself (ok- she needed a little help afterward but she went there and did it before asking for help). She has to carry around her Princess books that daddy bought for her. There's a set of 12, so she can't carry all of them around so we got her a little bag so that she could take a few along with her. Emily and Bethany enjoyed some play time at the park last night. Emily is a big climber now. Brave Bethany took off and went down the big kid slide before daddy could reach her (but mommy was at the bottom so it worked out ok). It's nice that they can entertain themselves more independently now. SEPTEMBER 16, 2005 We attended my work picnic. It was out at the farm of one of my co-workers. Emily wasn't afriaid to explore. She climbed the fence to see the horse, ran through the evergreen trees (to pretend that she was in the scary forest in the Wizard of Oz), and put her fingers in every dish that sat out. Bethany was a little shy, but not nearly as much as she used to be. SEPTEMBER 14, 2005 Sesame Street Live came to us. What fun the girls had! They jumped and danced throughout the whole thing. Daddy bought them cotton candy (which ended up on their clothes and in their hair), but was able to stave off their demands for Elmo balloons and light toys. Emily waved to the characters. Bethany was a little dancing queen. Emily's moves could be better described as jumping, not so much as dancing. Sesame Street Live Daddy and dancing Bethie Emily waves to the Sesame Street characters SEPTEMBER 13, 2005 Mike, Signa, and Oliva spent the evening over at our house. Emily, Olivia, and Bethany had a fun time playing. Signa told Michael a little more about the wedding plans. I was out at my class, so I missed out on some of the fun. My class is half way over though! SEPTEMBER 10, 2005 Today we announced to our family that we are expecting Baby Oetken. Emily came out and handed Daddy the test and said, "Here's my baby brother, Daddy." Of course we don't know if it's a boy or not, but it was cute. The next day Emily told Michael, "I want a baby brother that's a girl like Bethany." Funny. Today is also my mom's 48th birthday. SEPTEMBER 9, 2005 Emily still isn't potty trained. She's being very stubborn about the whole deal. She has done a bit better lately though. Here she is wearing her big girl princess panties. Of course she has to wear her Snow white high heels as she poses. Emily, 3 years old SEPTEMBER 5, 2005 Labor day was a fun time this year. Michael and little Matthew took the T-Bird through the parade. Grandma Carolyn joined us to watch the parade for the first time ever. It wasn't terribly hot, which made things much nicer. The girls, Carolyn, and I joined my family, Tonya, and Kelcie in watching the parade. Emily liked getting the candy too. Bethany, Emily & Grandma Carolyn at the parade

SEPTEMBER 4, 2005 Chrisiane had her dedication today. She looked pretty in her little wedding gown dress. She didn't cry until afterward. We had a dinner following the service. Jennifer with Christiane 9/4/05 SEPTEMBER 3, 2005 Michael had the yard done recently. He had them set up a play place for the kid's toys too. Now they have their own little park in our back yard.
