SEPTEMBER 29, 2004 Bethany stood on her own without touching anything for about 5 seconds. We SEPTEMBER 28, 2004 Michael has been working so hard lately. He has some big projects plus he has been watching the babies. He's been a good daddy. We found out that my aunt has cancer. It's very troubling. You expect things to go wrong as you age, but she is younger than my dad. It makes you realize that your parents aren't going to live forever and it also makes you think of your own limited time on this Earth. I work around death all of the time since I'm in nursing homes, but it still sucks when it rears up and smacks you in the face. I was thankful to hear that all of those nuclear tests and such that I had were all just because of a mixup in test readings! Whew. I know Michael couldn't have handled these two crazy kids on his own forever. I like that song "live like you were dying" and since this all happened now, I don't think I'll ever forget it. As an update on the kids- well, they drive me nuts. They really do. They are good, but when I'm busy or on the phone and they are screaming or hitting or Emily is on the table I just want to hit the mute button! I'm probably just not a good mom. I bought a book about 'family first' so I'm working on it. My job is just so demanding and so are those girls. Good thing Michael isn't high maintenance. I have an 8 month old and a two year old. I weigh as much now as I did swollen in 100 degree weather and 9 months pregnant with Emily. What in the hell is wrong with me? That fat lady in the mirror is NOT me. And I can't fit in anything cute anymore. I am so disappointed. I look at my little sisters and see what I did look like a few short years ago. I guess I'm so busy doing stuff that I overlook myself. How can that happen when you're with your own body all of the time? Who can I blame--McDonalds? Sure! If that darn McDonalds would just make calorie free value meals, this issue would be solved! I lost my watch some time ago. It's the strangest thing. I don't miss it, because I can never be on time for anything anyway. If I have to know the time, I always have that darn cell phone with me. As a speech path, I work with people on time orientation- time of year, time of day, etc. The strangest thing has happened to me. I often forget the day of the week. That's not too bad. But I also have been forgetting the month. I don't mean just when the calendar flips and I continue to write the previous month's number. No, I mean I'm lost as to when we are in time- is it April?? No, it's September. Seasons shouldn't be lost like that! I lose words all of the time. It's a real job hazard. My brain is going before I even hit thirty... I've been doing my own cognitive exercises to try to help myself. That's pretty bad. You can tell my mind is going fifty directions, so I'm rambling. More later. SEPTEMBER 22, 2004 Bethany is 8 months old! What a beautiful girl! Bethany is a monkey talker now too. She isn't actually talking a lot more. She is saying 'ya-ya' and 'ga-ga' on occasion. The reason I call her a monkey talker- she watches us talk then puckers her lips outward and says, 'who-who-who'. How funny. She is always climbing on or over me. Emily constantly takes toys from her (and she cries until she finds something else to take her attention). We still have to hold her bottles for her, even though she can do it if she has to. We eat together at the table for meals. She mostly likes it when she can eat her finger food snacks, but we have to feed them to her. She lets us know she wants another one by squacking at us with a little shrill sound. Bethie crawls all over and likes to hold a toy in one or both hands while she's at it. She will escape and sneak away into the bathroom to pull up and stand, looking into the bathtub whenever she has the opportunity. She still isn't wearing big clothes. Many of her younger clothes still fit her just fine. Her hair is blonde. Many people still comment on her solumn/serious looks that she gives. Still, I have captured a lot of smiles and silly looks. She is overall a happy girl. She likes to be held, especially when she's tired. We still snuggle bug her and walk when she is tired and restless. We love her so much!! SEPTEMBER 21, 2004 My silly little Bean Dips are growing so quickly! I can't believe it was 8 months ago that little Bethie started on her way into this world. She surely likes to get around these days. She tried crawling down the stairs to daddy this weekend. Luckily, we caught her before she headed down! She'll sneak away to look into the bathtub when given any opportunity. She squeezes between things to get past any barriers. Drawers are already seen as a challenge for her. I don't remember Emily doing this so quickly. Emily is turning into a little girl. Her hair is growing a lot longer now. She likes to have 'pretties' in her hair. She just loves it when I put my clips in her hair. They don't stay there for long, but she gives the 'proud of herself' look. It's so cute. Michael's parents got back from Hawaii and now my parents are in LasVegas. They are travellers. We'll get plenty of frequent flier miles and hotel points coming up in the near future as we venture to Baltimore, New Orleans, and Philadelphia in the coming months. We have the new carpet down in the girls' rooms now. Once we got it installed, Michael decided to switch their rooms. Now, they are sharing a room. Emily's old room is a toy room upstairs. So there is a sleeping room and a playing room. We'll see if this lasts. Bethany and Emily sat side by side in high chairs in Pizza Hut last night. Bethany ate crackers (okay, actually half of everything went onto the floor) and Emily kept asking for 'more matos' (more tomatoes) from our taco pizza. That strange kid likes tomatoes?!? Pam, the sitter, told us that Emily has used her potty chair instead of wetting her diaper during her naps two days in a row now! Yeah!! We've had a lot of family time lately. Papa John, Grandma Jenny and cousin Jordyn came over to play last weekend while they poured a new drive. This past weekend we went to Aunt Jenn-Jenn's house to lay sod. Jennifer came over to our house to help momma with more work today. We're putting together a continuing education course for this coming weekend. My first MBA courses are getting closer to being finished too. I have most of my assignments finished and I've been doing well. I also checked into the doctoral program at Wichita State. I don't know that I'm there yet, but we'll see what time holds. SEPTEMBER 12, 2004 Isn't Bethie just turning into such a cutie pie? Today we got her a big girl carseat. She's growing and growing. Emily didn't like Bethany having a seat like hers though. Today Emily told
us that she had to go to the bathroom and then she actually made it there
before she went. Hopefully, she'll continue this trend! This weekend Michael
and dad poured an additional drive for us. We'll have the other half done
on Wednesday (weather permitting). We can't have cars parked behind
each other or someone might just back right into them... (hmm, me?) SEPTEMBER 7, 2004 I've taken the entire week off because I just needed time to breathe. I have so many personal and school things to catch up on that work had to be put aside for a bit. I actually need about a month, but no matter how much time you have, it's never enough to accomplish what you need to complete. For now I'll just take what I can get. This past weekend Bethie was a climber. She pulls up on everything now. It goes along with that nosey theory I had when she started crawling and getting around so quickly- she just needs to know what is going on elsewhere. She crawled over to the tub when I was running her bath and pulled up to peer inside. At our trailer in Otis, the windows are large so when we opened them she crawled right over and pulled to a standing position and talked away to the angels that must have been outside. We celebrated Grandpa Dellane's birthday early since he'll be away in Hawaii on his real birthday. Daddy locked the keys in the truck, so we got to have an extended visit with Great G&G Horner too. Papa John grilled up a feast on his Trager super grill. Aunt Jaimee was back from school, which thrilled Emily. We helped Aunt Joni and Jordyn move more of their stuff into their new house too. The annual parade was in Hoisington and we all sat through the sunshine to keep up that tradition. The girls did well throughout the busy time. |
