NOVEMBER 27, 2005

This holiday break has been far too long. The girls are exhaused and so are we. Little Bethie was sick today. I think she was just worn out. Emily has been watching Princess movies repeatedly over this break. We also spent time with some friends and family.

I did some PRN work, exercised, got some Christmas cards out, and of course we spent time Christmas shopping. Michael got me one of the new iPods and went ahead and gave it to me this weekend instead of waiting. He even made sure to put "Night Moves" on it like I had requested. He chose a large metal tool chest for himself. We loaded up on stuff for the kids during the sales too. There, most of the gifts are done!

The kids saw Santa at the mall, but they were scared. There's a picture, but it scares me so I won't show it to you.

We celebrated Thanksgiving at our house in Salina this year. Michael's parents came down to celebrate with us. Carolyn made the meal. Emily and Grandma made pies together. They enjoyed that.

We also got out the Christmas decorations while they were here. The girls and grandma put the tree up. Michael put the outdoor decorations and added some inside touches today. Emily was very confused that we had Christmas stuff up since we were celebrating Thanksgiving. She kept saying, "It's not Christmas time- it's Thanksgiving time!"

Baby is peeking now. In the morning, no baby. In the evening, belly is there. It's weird how that all works. We're at 16 weeks (out of 40) so that belly will only get bigger from here.

Emily is potty trained now. She's been doing well for awhile now. Good, finally!

NOVEMBER 8, 2005

Bethany and Emily have been very demanding lately. At least we can understand what Emily is wanting. Bethany will go on and on and we'll both listen at her trying very hard to figure out what she wants, just so she'll stop already!  For example, last night when the girls were going to bed, Bethany kept saying, "Baby ting" (which I thought was 'baby thing'). Neither of us had a clue what she wanted. Finally Michael somehow figured out that she wanted her Scooby Snack (vitamin) that Michael forgot to give her before bedtime. How you get Scooby Snack out of 'baby ting' I do not know.

This morning she demanded, "mow ka-ka mook, mama!" (more chocolate milk, momma). Emily was more subtle- she did ask for chocolate milk, but wanted me to make sure that the chocolate was on TOP (she wanted to make sure that she could taste chocolate, not just the plain milk). She also told me that I had to stir it with a spoon. Isn't she just the commander?

Emily is really learning some academic skills now at the sitter's house. Pam has taught her how to write her name (see below). It's not too shabby for a three year old. She has been tracing her name, letters, and numbers. She can say and point to colors. In fact, she tells us, "That light was RED you can't go, daddy!". Pam sent a worksheet home the other day where Emily had to count the number of items in the picture then select from a choice of two printed numbers. She did really well. I was surprised at how quickly she's picking things up.
