< HomeMay 29, 2006 - Memorial Weekend We took our first family trip back home for this holiday weekend. We spent time playing with cousins and visiting family. VIDEO: Girls swimming at Grandma's House 5/29/06: Swimming Girls
5/29/06: Chase 3 weeks old 5/29/06: Momma and the kids 5/28/06: Great Grandparents, Emily & Chase 5/28/06: Bethie, Emily, & Jordyn Picnic May 25, 2006 I was so wrapped up in all of the baby stuff that I failed to mention that I graduated with my MBA (Master of Business Administration)!! And I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, getting all A's and one B out of all of my coursework. I didn't attend the graducation ceremony since Chase had just gotten out of the hospital and I was a bit worn out myself, but I did get my degree regardless. The diploma just came in the mail. I finished this degree in two years, which is quite an accomplishment knowing what all has gone on in my life during that time. Now that I have to resume repayment of my school loans, I'm going to put all of my letters after my name whenever I sign anything so that I can get some use out of those dollars. Jeridy Oetken, MBA/MS, CCC-SLP
5/13/06: Jeridy's MBA diploma May 23, 2006 Chase is two weeks old. Michael weighed him today and he was exactly 10 pounds. Of course, that's just our home scale (which weighs Michael and I at least 10 pounds more than we THINK we are, so with that rationale Chase is weightless). I'm pleased to be 40 pounds lighter than two weeks ago, which is excellent because I didn't gain nearly that much weight! Still, my body doesn't seem to have bounced back to what I looked like when I was 19 yet- WAIT that's never really going to happen is it? uh... 5/22/06: Chase at 2 weeks old, complete with his "Zoolander" hair I've been the mistress of the house, paying the bills, doing the chores (yeah, as much as I can fit in between feedings), dealing with our home repairs from the storm, and our health insurance with the new baby. I'm at home ALL DAY LONG and I don't get 1/3 of what I want to do done, so how am I going to keep up with things when I go back to work? I guess we'll cross that bridge later (okay in a few weeks- it creeps up on you too fast!).
5/23/06: Chase fighting to eat-- "More, More Mommy!" May 21, 2006 The weekends are a bit insane around here right now. Maybe that's just me, but when the girls are around for several continuous hours in addition to the baby, my brain just wants to run away and hide for awhile. Luckily Grandma and Grandpa Oetken came down to visit on Saturday. Dellane and Michael worked on the car together (with Bethany's "help"). They watched the kids while Michael and I got to go see a movie. That's one of the few times I've been to the Salina theatre since we moved here. I'm probably wrong, but the last one I really remember going to here was the one with Mel Gibson and the crop circles, which was right before Emily was born! On Sunday Michael turned on the underground sprinklers and let the girls just run all over the back yard. They had a blast. See the videos below. VIDEO: Daddy's 'helpful' potty training words of wisdom VIDEO: Watch the girls go crazy in the sprinklers 5/21/06: Bethany & Emily loved it when daddy turned on the yard sprinklers and let them go crazy in them. And, yes, they were so crazy that they fell many times, laughed continuously, and screamed as the water would hit them. I'm sure the neighbors appreciated their noise.
5/20/06: Emily & Bethany had to wear dresses when Grandma and Grandpa Oetken were here to visit. Most of the day Emily also had on a fancy beaded necklace and several hair pretties too. 5/20/06: Grandpa Dellane, Michael, & Bethany working on the old T-Bird 5/19/06: Chase loves to eat and be held and cuddled--- all day long... May 15, 2006 Chase is already one week old and had yet another doctor visit today. He was back to 9lbs, 3oz. Momma is doing better too. I was so swollen, that I've lost over 30 pounds in one week just by having the baby! My poor feet and legs are starting to recover but my back is still sore (maybe from carrying that heavy kid around?). Michael is back to work. We're both tired with this nocturnal being keeping us up at night. I spend my time feeding, changing, and holding the baby throughout his waking hours. He seems to be pretty happy. The girls are getting along well. Emily just pets Chase's hair as if he's a cat. Bethany at least remembers his name, unlike Emily. They are both pretty entertained by each other, so they don't bother with that baby so very much. May 13, 2006 Michael had the week off. He made sure to spend time with the girls. He grilled and had a picnic with them in the beautiful outdoors. Grandma and Grandpa Oetken came down this weekend to see the kids and hold baby Chase for the first time. Picnic with the girls 5/13/06 VIDEO: Watch the girls try to entertain Chase May 12, 2006 My mom stayed with us after we got home from the hospital. She helped us with the girls and around the house. She did an excellent job of figuring out how to adjust the carseats. The girls have been growing so quickly that they didn't fit in their seats anymore and Chase's seat just wasn't right either. Bethany liked the attention and gave this funny suck-in-cheeks pose. We were back at the doctor for the follow up today after our ER visit. Bethany's funny pose 5/12/06 May 11, 2006 Hello world! Chase got to leave the hospital today after having a little more trouble, giving us only a slight delay in his departure time. He was 9lbs when he was discharged. Tonight we ended up back in the ER with poor baby. Luckily Signe hadn't had her baby yet, so she was able to come over and stay at the house with the girls. Chase, 3 days old 5/11/06 May 10, 2006 Chase got out of the NICU today, so he got to come out of the nursery and down to my room. He also got to start trying some real nutrition since he was only getting IV fluids the first whole day. Chase's vein broke so they had to put on into his head- ouch! Emily and Bethany got to see and touch baby brother for the first time today. Chase with ouchie IV 5/10/06 Emily & Bethany seeing baby Chase up close for the first time 5/10/06 VIDEO: The girls visit Chase at the hospital May 8, 2006 No baby this weekend, so we headed to the hospital this morning. Chase came in record time- just under 3.5 hours from start to finish. He gave little trouble, little pain, and made me put out little effort (3 pushes!). He wasn't so little though. Though he was one week early, he was already 9lbs, 4oz and 21.5 inches long. He came out a bit too fast though, so he had some breathing difficulties and had to stay in the NICU.

May 4, 2006 The doctor visit today was eventful. I was at a 3 and ready to have the baby. However, if I don't do it myself, they'll go ahead and induce on Monday morning, May 8th. |
