We have a 5 month old. How fast time has flown by with #2! This morning, Michael went in to her room and she had her arms on the bumper pad and with her little head peeking up over the edge of the crib. Yeah, this one may be an escape artist before we ever get Emily out of her crib! The play yard has been taken out of our room and has taken up new residence downstairs, functioning simply as a changing area for now. We just don't know what to do with the space we have now. It's also strange for us to go to bed without the closet light on.  Funny how you get used to things. Bethany loves jumping around in her jump-up and she has started to play in her exersaucer. It seems like Emily was just doing that.

Emily dances and attempts to sing along with her Wiggles DVD now. She loves the videos at the sitter's and at home. She says what is coming next. With her books, she now goes through them as if she's reading them aloud. Often she says many of the right words even. She really has been listening as we've read them over, and over, and over, and over.

Emily had this new fear thing going on. She woke up crying her little heart out last night. She was afraid of the sound of the rain water falling down through the drain on the guttering. She can at least communicate 'scared' to us, but can't explain why.  Sometimes she'll point or we can tell by her body language. She is scared to go down the stairs (but climbs them without abandon). The crab on one of her videos scares her for some reason.  Who knows why?

She often wants to be picked up and carried. I don't know if it's for a desire to be close to us or for love (we'll take either) or maybe just out of pure laziness.  When she requests, she says something that sounds like, "I kill you."  We finaly discovered it's really 'I carry you' because that's what we say to her when she's not walking fast enough, "I'll carry you.".  She doesn't get the switching of the pronouns and all of that jazz. We have been modeling 'hold me' instead to reduce confusion for others.

Bethany did not like the wedding dinner and dance this weekend. The wedding was fine and she sat on grandpa's lap and looked around at everyone. The dinner and dance, full of people and loud noises put her over the top. She cried and cried unless I had her outside. We ended up leaving by 7pm.  What party-goers we are!  Emily did love it and wanted to dance with anyone that would give her the time of day. I wouldn't call it 'dancing' as much as just jumping and running around the dance floor. It was cute to see though.

We spent time with our dads for Father's Day. We also got to see our cousin's babies. Ellie is now 2 months and Kaden is 1 month. They are tiny dollies.

The faint light from the basement shown up the stairs, casting long shadows against the walls. The moving fan blades generally draw her attention, but she was simply intrigued by this scene. We sat in the glider rocker with her feeding on her little nutrition coctail in the wee hours of the morning. She sipped every ounce of goodness, then turned away. She snuggled against me and immediately closed her eyes, drifing off again. Welcome to another new day, little Bethie.

Love,

Momma

I failed to mention our swimming trip to the Y last week. It was the first time Emily had gone since she was a tiny baby and Bethany's first time. Bethany didn't even react when we were in the water. Emily had a great time. She tried to take off swimming as if she had done it before? They had a blast.

Yesterday was Emily's first trip to the library. She wanted more to play with the little Spanish speaking kids that were running around and screaming, but she also liked all the decorations and little seats and bright colored tables and such. The stairs were her favorite.  Now, this seemingly late first visit to the library doesn't mean she has been deprived of books- the opposite is true. She has a gabillion books and 'reading' them is one of her favorite passtimes. I think a trip with Emily to the library will have to wait awhile again. We may just stop in and get some books for her instead.

This wonderful thing has happened- Bethany begins to fuss around the same time we put Emily to bed (8:45-ish). We put her in her crib and Emily in hers and they sleep all night long! We actually have to wake them both in the mornings.  It's a spectacular (and much anticipated) achievement!

Today is our 7th wedding anniversary. Since it fell on a Monday, I didn't even remember until Michael sent me a card on email.

This past weekend was just full of babies. Some friends came over and brought their baby boys (and their wives tagged along too).  One was 6 lbs and not even a week old and the other was Bethany's age and nearly 20 lbs. It was fun to see them both.

Michael has been working a lot around the house. Since the basement is done, he has turned his attention to other little projects. He has painted the porch swing and the basement window ledges, pulled lots of weeds, and mows constantly. See our pretty flowers and bushes and neatly trimmed yard in the picture below.

He has also been working on a new website for Pillar. I know, you have all heard us talk about this unknown band for many years. Well now you can walk into your local WalMart and see Pillar's album on the posters that announce the new movies and music. See, they really ARE a band. If you'd like to see the new site, go to www.pillarmusic.com

Tonight Emily sat and chattered away as we were driving down the interstate. She sang songs, 'read' her books, and held conversations with herself, slinging a few commands toward the front seat every so often ("Open it daddy please.")

When we got home, I held Bethany in my arms and rocked her. She just stared at me until her eye lids got heavy. I held her gaze. Once she had passed, I continued to rock her. Looking at her, I noted her 'bird legs' have changed to a mass of little rolls. Her hair, once so dark, has already changed to match her daddy's blondish hue. That tuft on top looks so much like Michael's grandfather who just regrew his after having cancer treatments. Emily was just this small and now she wouldn't dare let me capture her like this.

One month, one year, one decade- time is slipping by. I often forget the month now-a-days. Emily was just born, but she'll be two in no time. I was just in high school, but soon we'll mark a decade since I've graduated. In a few days, we'll mark seven years that Michael and I have been married, over eleven since we began to date. Time marches on.
