< HomeJuly 31, 2006 Emily and Bethany have been growing like weeds. Emily is over 40 pounds now! We've had to buy them both new sandals recently, even though we just got new ones at the beginning of the summer. Bethany is quite the talker now too. She says things like, "I don't like that either." and of course, "I want to take my BIG pink blanket, Daddy!". She's addicted to her pink blankets (normal size and the dolly size one.) She still messes up her pronouns like 'they' for 'them' and 'he' for 'his' but this is a far cry from where she was mere months ago. Yesterday Emily scolded me and said, "Now you think about that, Mommy" as she gave me this motherly look. Michael and I couldn't help but laugh. 7/24/06: Onery Bethany & Emily They enjoy running around like crazy kids. They change their clothes a gabillion times, tromp around in various shoes (whether they fit or not, it doesn't matter), or just strip down to their undies. Emily loves to just wear her dress slips around the house. Bethany has taken to putting different colored socks on her hands and feet and running around like that as she plays. We just try to keep them indoors! Bethany is still not potty trained, but she's working on it. She just can't get there for the pee-pee, but the rest of the time she does great. Emily is such a big girl that she hardly ever has accidents anymore. She is still working on dressing herself and doing things for herself more. I guess it'll be 'sink or swim' soon since preschool starts in just a couple of weeks! They both like to do jobs at home like taking the dishes to the sink, handing momma clean dishes out of the dish washer, passing things at the table, putting away dishtowels as I fold clothes, or bring requested items to us to help care for Chase (diaper, wipes, pacifier, burp rag). What good helpers we have! 7/22/06: Hats from Great Gma Kettering Chase has gotten to spend a lot more time with Aunt Jessie than the other kids ever did. It just so happened that Jessie moved nearby this June. She took the summer off before starting her new job and Chase and Mommy have been off together since he was born in May. We've gone there to visit several times and she has come over to see us too. She even watched Chase a few times. The girls have enjoyed seeing her more too- now they can remember her!
Chase can't hide his emotions too well: smile (above), worried (below) nearly 3 mo old (11 wks)
Picture of the Day: 7/24/06: Kids on a Blanket- enjoy the grass while it's still green since the water restrictions went into effect this week! July 27, 2006 The girls liked having our pretend picnic out on a blanket. I was able to get some nice pictures. Michael is the king of the yard. He also painted. He'll do anything to get outside and avoid the kids. 7/27/06: Momma chillin' with Chase I only have one week left on my leave. It's been nice watching Chase grow. He now mostly drinks bottles, 5-7 oz each feeding. He kicks his feet around a lot and laces his fingers together. His favorite is the bouncy seat with the dangly toys. The girls still entertain him well too. He smiles and giggles when they talk to him. Chase seems to grow every day. He's so long now and has grown out of a lot of his little clothes. He slept over 8 hours the other night too. We really enjoyed that. He rolled over from his tummy to his back when he was really angry the other night. It was probably an accident, but he did it all by himself! 7/24/06: Emily shining beautifully in the sun 7/24/06: Bethany serving me 'hot cookies' from her grill
7/24/06: Michael- king of the yard July 22, 2006 - Happy Birthday We enjoyed Christiane's first birthday party this weekend. She was so cute in her tutu! See the picture section for more photos. 7/22/06: Christiane & Daddy Chris July 18, 2006 - Happy Birthday Happy Birthday to Christiane! She is one year old. It seems like she was just born. She's having her big first birthday party this weekend so that we could all attend. We just hope that the new baby won't come the day of the party! We know baby will be here soon though, making her a big sister at the ripe old age of 1. Happy 1st Birthday, Christiane! July 17, 2006 - Family Reunion This weekend was the annual Oetken reunion in Larned, KS. The girls wore their sad faces and were shy for awhile, but then they were ready to go. Miss Emily stayed with Grandma Carolyn and the rest of us headed home. We've endured the heat in our new home, Hell, KS. Chase slept 7 hours Sunday night- from 10:45 to 7:45. That's excellent, because I went to work on Monday. He keeps growing and changing all the time. He laughed his little 'lamb' laugh this weekend for Grandma Jenny. He just loves to be naked too. He coos and coos when he's 'free'. That kid still has some wild hair after he takes a shower. Picture of the day: VIDEO: pTerodactyl Chase (7/17/06) 7/17/06: Chase slept 7 hours last night! Even he's amazed. 7/17/06: Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. We've now officially entered hell. Chase & Momma- a familiar sight Emily: Perfect Angel? Really? Emily, Gma Carolyn, & Bethany- sad, sad girls 7/11/06: Emily, Michael, Chase, & Bethany July 12, 2006 - Changing kids Chase had his two month doctor's appointment yesterday. He is growing and developing just fine. The doctor had some funny things to say. If you want to know, you'll have to ask! Chase is 24 inches tall (90th %ile) and 11 lbs 13 oz (50th %ile). He grew 2 inches and 2 pounds in one month! He got his first set of shots too. He didn't even cry for the first one, but he made up for that on #2 and #3. Poor baby! And poor momma and daddy-- Chase didn't sleep so well last night after getting those shots either. Emily and Bethany notice facial expressions and ask WHY questions a lot now. They also want to wear dresses every single day. In fact, they'll get home and change into at least two other dresses each per night too. Emily is quite the sophisticated speaker too- she uses big words and complex sentences, paired with lots of gestures and expressions. Her body language and inflections when she talks make me laugh, because they make her seem a lot older than she is (reminder- she's not even 4 quite yet!). Well, I started to notice when I saw video clips or my reflection as I was talking that Emily is only doing what MOMMY does. Isn't it funny that we don't realize our own silly habits until they're reflected back to us in our kids? The nice trainer lady at the YMCA asked yesterday if she could just put a nametag on me that says, 'ask me how to use the equipment' since I've been going more regularly again. It's hard to get motivated to exercise, but I've gotta do it, despite the fact that I'd much rather sleep or eat a cookie (or two)! 7/11/06: Emily & Jeridy July 8, 2006 - Chase 2 months Chase is 2 months old. He coos, smiles, and tries to laugh (but sounds more like a lamb in pain or something). He is a super screamer when he's mad too. Chase is still staying at home with momma for now. He is starting to grow out of some of those size 1 diapers now, depending on the brand. Most of his 0-3 month clothes still fit, but the one piece outfits are stretched to their limits. He pottys through his clothes often, so he gets a chance to wear his entire wardrobe! We're switching over to formula more and more, to help transition to going to Pam's. He is staying awake quite a bit during the day, only taking cat naps mostly. He sleeps about 4 hours at night and wants to eat once, then goes back to sleep. I will have to add his height and weight when we go to his 2 month appointment on Tuesday. He also LOVES his babies. He has these Ann Geddes sunflower babies in a big picture by his changing table. He smiles and kicks and coos at them. It's so cute! Here are some videos that I didn't get on before now: VIDEO: Fussy Chase (from 6/12/06) VIDEO: Jordyn, Bethany, and Emily running (and crashing) in their heels (6/19/06) VIDEO: Chase plays with Mommy (6/26/06) 7/1/06: Chase smiles at Great Gma Landers
7/4/06: Crabby Chase- his hair is wavy when it's wet. too cute!
All this growing makes me sleepy. July 6, 2006 We're at home without sissy Emily. Bethany has enjoyed the time but misses sissy a lot. I've been catching up on car maintenance stuff and, as always, working on housework. The darn bills just keep piling up day after day. uh! 7/6/06: Bethany, Michael, & Chase chillin' while Emily is at Gma Jenny's
bills, bills, bills... I'll never catch up!
Look what I found: Costumes for Chase and #3 Baby Short! July 4, 2006 - 4th of July Holiday Weekend The weekend of the 4th was nice. We spent it at home at the Villa. Jeridy got to spend the day with Kassy on Friday. We went to a movie together while Kassy's girls watched Chase. The girls and Michael joined us later at Otis. The grad dinner was Sat night (see below). The dinosaur museum was our Sunday trek with the girls only- Chase stayed with Gma Carolyn. Michael had to work on Monday, but we all stayed in Otis and visited Grandma Jenny. Emily stayed with Grandma Jenny when we left on Tuesday. Gma Jenny and Papa John spent the evening of the 4th at Derrick's watching the Great Bend fireworks display. The rest of us went back home. Signe, Olivia, and Blake all came over too. We all sat out on our back porch and were able to watch both displays, the city's and the country club's. Bethany and Olivia were exhausted. Blake and Chase both slept through the show on their mommys' laps. 7/4/06: Papa John & Emily at their 4th celebration at Derrick's 7/4/06: Chase & Bethany checking each other out 7/2/06: Michael, Bethany, & Emily at the dinosaur museum in Hays July 1, 2006 - Jeridy & Joni's Graduation Party Mom held a graduation dinner party for Jeridy and Joni. Joni got her degree from Barton County and Jeridy got her degree from Kansas Wesleyan in May. Jeridy is done with school for now, but Joni is continuing to get her teaching degree from FHSU.
